Helper DLLs

Explorer Notification helper DLL

Explorer Notification helper DLL is a module for Windows Explorer that receives notification from the driver about the added or removed mounting points. This DLL then broadcasts a sysem message, which tells Explorer to refresh the list of the disks. Without such DLL, Explorer won't refresh the disk list, if the mounting point is added or removed from the service application or from other user session.

This DLL also deals with custom icons for virtual disks in Explorer.

Explorer Notification helper DLL has the name CBFSDiskMntNtf2017.dll and is shipped in 32-bit and 64-bit variants. It is included in the CAB file that also contains the drivers.

Explorer Notification helper DLL is loaded by registering it during the installation as a Browser Helper Object (BHO) in Windows Explorer. This causes Internet Explorer versions prior to version 9 notify the user about the new add-in that has been added to Internet Explorer. If you install your appliction to the systems which have Internet Explorer 8 or earlier, you might get complaints about unrecognized extension from your users. In this case, there's a (relatively simple) alternative - extract the DLL from the CAB file, deploy it with your application and don't specify the corresponding flag when installing the driver. The DLL won't be registered as a BHO. You can then load the DLL into your user interface program or to some other process (maybe you create a shell extension for your application). The DLL can be loaded with a LoadLibrary() Windows API call.

Network Redirector helper DLL

Network Redirector helper DLL is a module for Windows Explorer that assists Explorer in working with network mounting points. Without such DLL Explorer will show the virtual disk, exposed via the network mounting point, as disconnected, and will behave weird in some other aspects.

Network Redirector helper DLL has the name CBFSDiskNetRdr2017.dll and is shipped in 32-bit and 64-bit variants. It is included in the CAB file that also contains the drivers.
